No Role of India in Stopping Nepali Citizen from Travelling to Berlin: MHA
The Indian Ministry of Home Affairs clarified that Indian immigration authorities had no role in preventing Nepali citizen Shambhavi Adhikari from travelling to Berlin at Delhi's IGI Airport. The airline, Qatar Airways, stopped her due to visa validity issues and sent her back to Kathmandu. The incident was wrongly portrayed as discrimination, and Adhikari later travelled to Berlin via a different route.
The Union Home Ministry (MHA) issued a statement denying any involvement of Indian immigration authorities in the recent case where Nepali citizen Shambhavi Adhikari was stopped from boarding a connecting flight to Berlin at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. Adhikari arrived from Kathmandu on an Air India flight and was transiting through Delhi. The airline Qatar Airways refused to let her board the flight due to concerns over the validity of her visa for Germany, later flying her back to Kathmandu. The MHA emphasized that international transit passengers do not pass through Indian immigration control and that such matters are solely between the airline and the passenger, based on destination visa regulations. The ministry also stressed there was no bias or discrimination on the part of Indian authorities against Nepali citizens. After rescheduling her trip, Adhikari successfully travelled to Berlin via a different route from Kathmandu. The MHA reaffirmed the strong and friendly ties between India and Nepal, dismissing any reports of discrimination or prejudice in this case.
