OpenAI is providing free access to its ChatGPT Go subscription tier for one year to users in India beginning November 4, 2025. This tier includes higher message limits, increased image generation and uploads, and longer memory capabilities. The move aims to expand OpenAI’s rapidly growing Indian user base, its second-largest global market, following similar free AI offers from competitors.

OpenAI announced it will offer free access for one year to ChatGPT Go, a premium subscription tier with enhanced features such as higher query limits, more image generation, file uploads, and longer memory for personalized responses, to users in India starting November 4, 2025. This initiative coincides with OpenAI's first DevDay Exchange event in Bengaluru and is designed to boost adoption in India, currently OpenAI's second-largest and fastest-growing market. ChatGPT Go, introduced in India in August 2025 at a monthly price of Rs 399, responds to user demand for affordable premium AI access. Since its launch, paid ChatGPT subscriptions in India have more than doubled, and ChatGPT Go's availability has expanded to nearly 90 countries worldwide. OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, highlighted India’s importance, and the company is also planning local data centers through partnerships with Indian firms to support growth. This strategy follows similar promotions by competitors Perplexity and Google which have offered free premium AI access to Indian users, targeting students and consumers to expand the AI user ecosystem.
