OpenAI Offers Free One-Year ChatGPT Go Subscription in India with Some Feature Limitations
Starting November 4, 2025, OpenAI is offering its ChatGPT Go subscription free for one year exclusively to users in India. This plan grants access to GPT-5 with enhanced features over the free tier, like longer sessions and better file/image support, but it lacks some advanced capabilities found in higher-priced plans. The promotion aims to boost AI adoption in India’s large, tech-savvy market.
OpenAI has launched a limited-time promotion providing Indian users free access to its ChatGPT Go plan for 12 months starting November 4, 2025. ChatGPT Go, typically priced at ₹399/month, offers access to the GPT-5 large language model and enhanced features such as longer session lengths, improved file and image handling, data tools, and better memory/context awareness compared to the free plan. However, it does not include some advanced capabilities available in higher subscription tiers, including ChatGPT Plus (₹1,999/month) and Business or Pro plans, which offer faster response times, agent mode, custom GPTs, enterprise security, and premium experimental features. The goal is to onboard users in India’s large English-literate and tech-savvy population by providing premium access without upfront cost, thereby accelerating habitual use and potential upgrades to paid plans after the free period. Eligibility requires users to be located in India and to provide a payment method (credit card or UPI), though no fees will be charged during the promotion; some users have reported temporary UPI payment issues. Existing ChatGPT Go users in good standing can receive the promotion automatically. This move strengthens OpenAI’s market presence in India, its second-largest market, while applying competitive pressure on domestic SaaS chat startups. Users are advised to evaluate their needs, as the free Go plan, while valuable for trial use, does not fully match the feature set of more expensive tiers.
