OpenAI is providing a free one-year subscription to its affordable ChatGPT Go plan for users in India who sign up during a limited promotional period beginning November 4, 2025. The plan, priced under $5 monthly, offers enhanced features including increased usage limits and improved memory. This move aims to expand OpenAI's presence in India, its second-largest market, amidst competition from Google and Perplexity.

OpenAI announced a promotional offer starting November 4, 2025, giving Indian users free access to its ChatGPT Go subscription for a year. Released in India in August as a low-cost plan under $5 per month, ChatGPT Go provides users with 10 times more usage than the free version, including enhanced capabilities for generating responses, creating images, and uploading files, along with improved memory for personalized interactions. Existing subscribers in India are also eligible for this free 12-month access. India remains a vital market for OpenAI, being the company’s second-largest after the U.S., with over 700 million smartphone users and significant internet penetration. Despite high app downloads, revenue from paid plans in India has been modest. OpenAI's expansion includes establishing a New Delhi office and building a local team. Competitors like Perplexity and Google have introduced free AI subscription offers targeting India's vast and youthful user base. OpenAI will also host its DevDay Exchange developer conference in Bengaluru on November 4 to announce further India-specific initiatives for developers and enterprises, underscoring India’s rapid growth as a ChatGPT market.
