PESB Recommends Deepak Gupta as Chairman & Managing Director of GAIL (India) Limited

The Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) has recommended Shri Deepak Gupta, currently Director (Projects) at GAIL (India) Limited, for the post of Chairman and Managing Director (CMD). He was selected after interviews of 12 candidates and is expected to succeed the current CMD, Sandeep Kumar Gupta, who retires in February 2026. Deepak Gupta brings over 35 years of experience in the oil and gas sector.

Shri Deepak Gupta, serving as Director (Projects) at GAIL (India) Limited, has been recommended by the PESB for the role of Chairman and Managing Director of the company. The selection came after a rigorous interview process involving 12 candidates, including internal and external candidates from other public sector units. Deepak Gupta is a Mechanical Engineer from Delhi College of Engineering (now Delhi Technological University) with over 35 years of diverse experience in the oil and gas sector, emphasizing project management, construction, and business development. His leadership in managing large-scale infrastructure projects and expertise in various project implementation models like EPC, EPCM, OBE, and PMC have been notable highlights of his career. The appointment anticipates a seamless leadership transition following the retirement of the current CMD, Sandeep Kumar Gupta, on February 28, 2026. Deepak Gupta's vision for GAIL involves innovation in project execution, digital transformation, strategic business growth, and enhancing operational excellence, promising renewed strategic focus for one of India's largest natural gas companies.
