Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the year-long commemoration of the 150th anniversary of India's National Song, Vande Mataram, at Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi. During the event, Modi released a commemorative stamp and coin, and emphasized the song's significance as a symbol of unity and patriotism. He criticized the removal of important stanzas in 1937, linking it to the seeds of partition and calling divisive mindsets a continuing challenge for the country. Modi also launched an online platform, vandemataram150.in, for citizens to participate. The celebration included mass singing of the full version of the song across public spaces nationwide. Other leaders, including Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, also marked the occasion, with Kharge criticizing the RSS and BJP for their historical stance on the song. The commemoration will run from November 7, 2025, to November 7, 2026, celebrating Bankim Chandra Chatterjee's timeless composition.
