PM Modi to Inaugurate India's First Refinery-Petrochemical Hub in Rajasthan
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate India's first Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited Integrated Refinery-cum-Petrochemical Complex in Balotra, Rajasthan, on April 21. Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma announced the event, highlighting its significance for national energy security, Rajasthan's economic development, and energy self-reliance. The Rs 79,459 crore Pachpadra Refinery, with a 9 million metric tonnes annual capacity, will produce various petrochemicals, create substantial employment, and reduce import dependence, boosting sectors like transportation, pharmaceuticals, and packaging.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate India's first Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) Integrated Refinery-cum-Petrochemical Complex at Balotra, Rajasthan, on April 21. Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma made the announcement, emphasizing the project's pivotal role in bolstering national energy security and driving Rajasthan's economic growth. The Pachpadra Refinery, a massive undertaking with a revised cost of Rs 79,459 crore, boasts an annual refining capacity of nine million metric tonnes and spans approximately 4,400 acres. It will process a blend of Rajasthan and imported crude, having already commenced commercial liquefied petroleum gas production.Beyond traditional fuels, the facility is designed to produce a diverse range of petrochemicals, including polypropylene, Linear Low-Density Polyethylene, High-Density Polyethylene, benzene, toluene, and butadiene. These products are crucial for various industries, offering significant benefits to sectors such as transportation, pharmaceuticals, paints, and packaging. The project is expected to enhance India's energy self-reliance, considerably reduce dependence on imports in the petrochemical sector, and generate substantial direct and indirect employment opportunities for the youth, alongside fostering skill development. Chief Minister Sharma chaired a high-level meeting to ensure seamless preparations for the Prime Minister's visit, which will also include a public gathering and the flagging off of LPG tankers produced at the refinery. This initiative marks a significant step towards India's industrial advancement and economic sovereignty.
