A Russian oil tanker, MT Aqua Titan, chartered by MRPL, arrived off India's Mangaluru coast on Sunday amid global energy supply concerns heightened by the West Asia conflict. Its arrival follows an LPG cargo from the US. The Shipping Ministry waived cargo charges for crude and LPG at New Mangalore Port and affirmed the safety of Indian ships and sailors in the Persian Gulf. Other Indian-flagged tankers also successfully arrived, navigating disrupted trade routes.

The Russian oil-laden tanker, MT Aqua Titan, chartered by Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL), successfully arrived in India on Sunday, March 22, anchoring approximately 10 nautical miles off the Mangaluru coast. Its arrival is significant given the prevailing global energy supply concerns and volatile markets, exacerbated by the escalating conflict in West Asia. The tanker's journey comes at a critical time when crude and energy availability are impacted by geopolitical tensions and supply chain disruptions. Earlier on the same day, a cargo ship transporting Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) from Texas, United States, also reached the New Mangalore Port, further augmenting India's energy imports. In response to the evolving situation and to support imports, the Shipping Ministry announced a waiver of cargo-related charges for crude oil and LPG at New Mangalore Port, valid from March 14 to March 31. The ministry also assured that all 22 Indian ships and 611 Indian sailors operating in the Persian Gulf region remain safe, with no maritime incidents reported in the preceding 24 hours. Furthermore, India has seen the successful arrival of other energy carriers, including the Indian-flagged crude oil tanker Jag Laadki at Adani Ports Mundra in Gujarat, and two Indian-flagged LPG carriers, MT Shivalik and MT Nanda Devi, which safely traversed the Strait of Hormuz before arriving on March 16 and 17, respectively. These movements highlight India's continuous efforts to secure its energy supplies amidst regional conflicts affecting crucial trade routes like the Strait of Hormuz.
