South Korean Petrochemical Plant Starts Operations in Indonesia

Indonesia inaugurated a US$3.98 billion petrochemical complex owned by PT Lotte Chemical Indonesia in Cilegon, Banten. President Prabowo Subianto attended the event, highlighting the project's role in boosting national self-reliance and downstreaming. The facility is expected to produce US$2 billion in annual value and reduce dependence on imported chemicals.

Indonesia has officially launched the largest petrochemical plant in Southeast Asia, operated by PT Lotte Chemical Indonesia (LCI) in Cilegon, Banten. The US$3.98 billion facility was inaugurated on November 6, 2025, with President Prabowo Subianto and Lotte Group leadership present. The plant features a naphtha cracker with a capacity of 3 million tons per year, producing ethylene, propylene, polypropylene, butadiene, and BTX. It is integrated with a polyethylene plant and uses advanced Korean technology for energy efficiency and reduced carbon emissions. The project is expected to generate US$2 billion in annual economic value, reduce reliance on imported raw materials, and increase Indonesia's petrochemical self-reliance rate to 67 percent. Lotte Chemical aims to make Indonesia a hub for petrochemical innovation and human resource development in the region.
