Supreme Court Rules Air India Pilot Not to Blame for Fatal Crash
The Supreme Court of India stated that the preliminary investigation report on the Air India crash does not blame the pilot for the tragedy that killed hundreds. The Court advised the pilot's father not to carry the burden of blame and announced it will hear his plea for an independent probe on November 10.
The Supreme Court of India addressed the case concerning the Air India flight crash in Ahmedabad that resulted in over 200 fatalities. The court clarified that the preliminary report on the crash does not attribute blame to the pilot, Captain Sumeet Sabharwal. During the hearing, the Court expressed sympathy towards the pilot's family, specifically telling the pilot's father not to bear the burden of blame for the incident. The father, Pushkar Raj Sabharwal, had petitioned for an independent and judicial inquiry into the crash, expressing concerns about the impartiality of the ongoing Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) probe. The Supreme Court issued notices to the Union Government and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and scheduled a hearing on the plea for November 10, 2025. The case continues amid ongoing investigations citing issues such as fuel supply cutoff to engines but maintains the pilot is cleared of fault at this stage.
