In 2024, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) designated China as the secretariat host country for its Technical Committee on Common Names for Pesticides and Other Agricultural Chemicals (ISO/TC 81). Following this approval, the Shenyang Research Institute of Chemical Industry (SYRICI), a key subsidiary of Sinochem Holdings Co., Ltd., was officially appointed to serve as the secretariat host organization for ISO/TC 81. SYRICI's selection highlights its extensive background in standardization practices and its rich pool of expert resources, making it well-suited to undertake the daily administrative responsibilities of this crucial technical committee. ISO/TC 81, established in 1953, plays a vital role in the global agricultural sector by focusing on the standardization of common names for various pesticides and other agricultural chemicals. This committee currently boasts a membership of 40 countries and is responsible for managing three international standards. Its work is essential for ensuring clarity and consistency in the naming conventions of agricultural products worldwide, facilitating international trade and communication. Complementing this development, China National Chemical Information Center (CNCIC), also part of Sinochem Holdings Co., Ltd., has a well-established history of providing essential services such as agrochemical product registration for enterprises globally. CNCIC's expertise has already led to the successful registration of six new pesticide products and is actively working on over 20 more. Its global reach includes collaborations with clients across major markets like the United States, Europe, and Asia, further strengthening China's influence in the international agrochemical industry alongside SYRICI's new role.
