Technip Energies has secured a contract with Long Son Petrochemicals to convert an existing steam cracker from naphtha to ethane feedstock. This strategic project leverages Technip Energies' proprietary ethylene technologies, including USC® furnace design and HRS®, to achieve higher selectivity, energy efficiency, and optimized ethylene recovery. The initiative aims to enhance feedstock efficiency, reduce costs, significantly lower carbon footprint intensity, and bolster strategic resilience, marking a pioneering step in feedstock diversification for petrochemical producers.

Technip Energies has been awarded a significant contract by Long Son Petrochemicals, encompassing engineering and procurement services, site assistance, and the supply of proprietary burners for the plant’s cracking furnaces. The core of this project involves converting the existing steam cracker from naphtha to ethane feedstock, utilizing Technip Energies’ advanced ethylene technologies, specifically its Ultra Selective Conversion (USC®) furnace design and Heat-Integrated Rectifier System (HRS®). These technologies are designed to deliver superior selectivity, enhanced energy efficiency, and optimized ethylene recovery. This strategic shift will integrate substantial quantities of ethane into the current naphtha and propane feedstock mix, aiming to optimize overall feedstock efficiency, achieve considerable cost reductions, significantly decrease the carbon footprint intensity, and reinforce long-term strategic resilience against global market fluctuations. This endeavor is notable as one of the first worldwide in recent years to convert a naphtha-based steam cracker to ethane, reflecting a growing industry trend among forward-looking petrochemical producers to prioritize feedstock diversification and adopt lower-carbon inputs for improved supply chain security. Stéphane Mespoulhès, SVP Ethylene, Polyolefins, and Fertilizers Product Line at Technip Energies, expressed satisfaction, highlighting the renewed trust from Long Son Petrochemicals and demonstrating how their technologies help clients adapt to evolving market dynamics. This award was recorded in Q1 2026 within the Technology, Products & Services segment, further solidifying the long-standing collaboration between the two entities.
