Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha announced a significant grant of Rs 50.25 lakh for the development of infrastructure at 'Sanskriti Haat' in Old Agartala Block during the event marking 100 weeks of the cultural market’s operation in Sen Para, Nandannagar, Agartala. Saha highlighted the importance of cultural development in the state and commended the organizers for consistently holding the market every week since its launch on December 10, 2023, without interruption. The 'Sanskriti Haat' has grown in popularity, attracting visitors from Tripura, neighboring Bangladesh, and West Bengal, and has become a symbol of cultural unity in the region. The Chief Minister also connected the event to broader socio-economic benefits, mentioning that it has helped improve the livelihoods of 40–50 local families who participate in self-help groups, produce and sell goods, and gain alternative sources of income. He noted that approximately 485,000 women in Tripura have joined self-help groups, with 1.08 lakh achieving 'lakhpati didi' status—a goal emphasized by Prime Minister Narendra Modi—contributing to women’s empowerment and economic independence. Saha emphasized that culture is a vital link between the past, present, and future, and highlighted Tripura’s diverse ethnic composition, including 19 ethnic groups, Manipuris, minorities, and Bengalis, as a source of pride and unity. The 'Sanskriti Haat' initiative stands out for blending cultural preservation with economic opportunity, fostering both community spirit and financial improvement in the region.
