Two Dead, Three Injured in Mandya Chemical Tank Explosion

A chemical storage tank exploded at Kirti Chemicals Industries in Mandya, Karnataka, on Sunday, February 15, killing two workers and injuring three others. The incident, which occurred around 10 am, was caused by residual chemical vapours igniting when workers used a gas cutter to open the tank cap. Eyewitnesses reported the workers were part of a new project. Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into safety protocols at the factory. The injured are receiving treatment at Mandya MIMS Hospital.

On Sunday, February 15, a fatal accident at Kirti Chemicals Industries in Mandya, Karnataka, resulted in two deaths and three injuries after a chemical storage tank exploded. The incident took place around 10 am near Karakkate village in Basaralu, when workers attempting to open a tank cap with a gas cutter inadvertently ignited residual chemical vapours. The two deceased workers were identified as Akash and Kallu, the latter being the uncle of another worker, Aman, who was not present during the blast. Qasim was named among the injured.The injured individuals were promptly transported to Mandya MIMS Hospital for urgent medical care. According to eyewitness Rajiv Kumar, a factory worker, the explosion happened while a team of 7-8 workers, many from Bihar, were engaged in a new project that had commenced approximately a month prior. Notably, the contractor, Guddu Khan, was reportedly absent from the site at the time of the explosion. Some workers expressed unfamiliarity with the specific chemicals being handled. Basaralu police have since visited the scene, registered a case, and launched an investigation focusing on the factory's adherence to safety protocols and handling procedures.
