President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of Uganda recently praised the entrepreneurial spirit of Indians, noting their significant contributions to Uganda's economic development. His remarks were made during a Diwali dinner hosted with the First Lady, Janet Museveni, for the Indian community at State House in Entebbe. The event celebrated the festival of lights and brought together prominent members of the Indian diaspora alongside officials from the Indian High Commission in Kampala. The Indian community has played a crucial role in Uganda's growth, particularly in sectors like manufacturing, construction, and banking, after many returned following Idi Amin's expulsion in 1972. Museveni's government has supported their return and restoration of property rights, fostering economic revival.
