On October 31, 2025, Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the 'Run for Unity' from Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, Delhi, to mark Rashtriya Ekta Diwas coinciding with the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India’s first Home Minister. Shah highlighted Patel’s monumental achievement of integrating 562 princely states into modern India shortly after independence. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for fulfilling Patel’s vision by abrogating Article 370, thereby unifying Kashmir with India. Shah also paid floral tribute to Patel’s statue and, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), lauded Patel’s lifelong commitment to farmer welfare, national unity, and social inclusion through cooperatives. Prime Minister Modi similarly paid homage at the Statue of Unity in Gujarat. Additionally, commemorative coins and stamps were issued on this occasion. The ‘Run for Unity’ is part of a broader celebration including Bharat Parv festivities from November 1 to 15 that showcase India’s tribal culture, reinforcing Sardar Patel’s enduring legacy as a symbol of national integration, justice, and empowerment of marginalized communities.
