UP Charts Roadmap for Lucknow AI City to Anchor India’s First AI Hub
Uttar Pradesh is developing India’s first dedicated AI City in Lucknow, spanning 70 acres near Chaudhary Charan Singh Airport. Supported by a Rs 5 crore initial allocation and a broader Rs 10,732 crore investment under the IndiaAI Mission, the project aims to create a technology hub fostering AI innovation, startups, research, and skilled employment. The initiative forms part of UP’s digital transformation and economic growth agenda.
The Uttar Pradesh government has embarked on an ambitious plan to establish India’s first AI City in Lucknow, designed to serve as a nucleus for artificial intelligence innovation and technology-driven economic growth. Covering 70 acres in the Nadarganj Industrial Area near the city’s airport, the AI City will accommodate tech companies, startups, academic institutions, and research centers focusing on AI, machine learning, and data analytics. The initiative is supported by an initial Rs 5 crore allocation in the 2025-26 Finance Bill and a substantial Rs 10,732 crore corpus under the IndiaAI Mission, highlighting the state's commitment to building a robust AI ecosystem with cutting-edge infrastructure such as 10,000 GPUs and multi-modal language models.The project aligns with Uttar Pradesh’s broader digital transformation vision, including smart city initiatives and expanding IT-enabled governance services. Efforts such as the AI Pragya program are training over one million individuals in AI-related skills in collaboration with tech giants. The AI City's design includes integrated residential and commercial zones fostering a walk-to-work model. Additional plans involve AI-driven traffic management and security systems in Lucknow, further integrating AI into urban management.Together with earlier initiatives like the Aerocity development, this AI City positions Lucknow as a leading tech hub, aiming to attract significant investment, generate skilled employment, and propel Uttar Pradesh into a competitive position on the global technology map.
